Walt Disney Co. and Channel 4 have finalized an agreement to bring the British broadcaster's main linear channel and a selection of its on-demand content to Disney+ in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The partnership is set to launch in early 2027.

Under the terms of the deal, Disney+ subscribers in the U.K. and Ireland will gain access to Channel 4's high-definition broadcast channel. They will also be able to stream a catalog of scripted and unscripted titles, including recent productions such as the drama Maya and the comedy Stepping Up. These titles will be available on the streaming platform simultaneously with their original broadcast on Channel 4.

The integration will appear as a dedicated, Channel 4-branded section within the Disney+ interface. This section will mirror the navigation and user experience of the rest of the streaming service. Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed by either party.

Channel 4 CEO Priya Dogra stated that the collaboration is designed to reach viewers who may not currently tune into the network's owned and operated services. She noted that audience habits are shifting toward multiple viewing platforms. Dogra emphasized that the partnership allows Channel 4 to maintain its public service programming while expanding its reach to new demographics.

Karl Holmes, general manager for Disney+ in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, described the deal as the most ambitious in the company's history for the region. He cited a 30 percent increase in Disney+ subscribers across EMEA over the last 18 months as evidence of growth driven by local content. Holmes said the agreement aligns with a strategy to pair high-quality local programming with the global reach of the Disney brand.

This is the latest in a series of content agreements between Disney+ and major European broadcasters. Previous deals have been struck with ITV in the U.K., RAI in Italy, ARD and ZDF in Germany, SIC in Portugal, and RTVE and Atresmedia in Spain. Disney CEO Josh D'Amaro has previously outlined a vision to establish Disney+ as the digital center of the company's operations.

Data from U.K. measurement firm BARB indicates a demographic disparity between the two platforms. On Channel 4, 3 percent of viewing hours are consumed by people aged 4 to 15, while on Disney+ that figure is 17 percent. Conversely, 63 percent of Channel 4 viewers are aged 55 and older, compared to 11 percent on Disney+. The partnership aims to bridge this gap by exposing younger audiences to Channel 4 programming.

Both executives indicated that the partnership could expand beyond the initial content integration. Dogra noted that Channel 4 already licenses Disney content, including The Simpsons and This Is Us. Holmes expressed interest in evolving the relationship into a broader agreement as the companies continue to work together.

Further details regarding specific launch dates and the full scope of content available under the partnership will be announced in the future.
